French onion soup recipe

Preparation
In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and salt; Simmer, stirring occasionally, until the onions golden - about 30 minutes.

Add the vinegar and sherry; Cook for 5 minutes, then add the remaining ingredients. Boil for one hour. Test and season. Pour (to the top of the tray fit Cut) in heat-resistant glasses or pots, and top with a piece of toast.

Cover with cheese and into a preheated broiler until the cheese is melted and begins to brown. Serve warm.
