Fried Pies

Empanadas are small semicircles fried dough filled with fruit and, as the name suggests, are fried. Often fried fried cake today, but traditionally fried in a cast iron skillet. They are delicious, portable and throughout the South.

Fried cakes have a long history in other parts of the country (New England President Franklin Pierce was born Amateur known), but are not common today. McDonald explains his cake, fried apple menu in 1968, but replaced it with baked versions in 1992. In many parts of the country, all that remains are packed Hostess fruit pies. There are indications that this might change. The food truck Whiffies in Portland, Oregon, is useless, but built up the fried pies (sweet and savory) and a very loyal fan base.

In the south, the recipes from generation to generation have. The two popular flavors of apple and peach. Peach cake are to be generally more popular in the deep south, while apple pie are usually in the northern part of the South favorable. But there is actually no limit to what you can put in a fried cake. Most popular flavors are cherry, strawberry, blueberry, coconut, chocolate and sweet potatoes.
